Recipe – Homemade Deodorant
Tired of using store-bought deodorants with risky ingredients like aluminum, phthalates, and parabens? Take control of what goes on your skin, by DIY’ing it! Check out this DIY Deodorant recipe:
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of coconut oil (antibacterial and moisturizing)
- 2 tablespoons of shea butter (soothing and nourishing)
- 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder (absorbs moisture)
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda (neutralizes odor) – If you have sensitive skin, consider reducing the amount of baking soda or substituting it with additional arrowroot powder.
- 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil (for fragrance, optional) – I love tea tree, lavender and rose!
- A small, clean container – you can reuse an old deodorant container or small glass jar for a more eco-friendly approach!
Instructions
- In a double boiler, gently melt the coconut oil and shea butter into a liquid.
- Remove the melted oils from the heat, and stir in the arrowroot powder and baking soda. Mixi until it’s smooth.
- To make your deodorant fragrant, add 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil.
- Pour the mixture into a clean, empty deodorant tube or a small glass jar. Allow it to cool and solidify at room temperature. Note: You can also speed up the process by placing it in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Deodorant care instructions
Once your DIY deodorant has solidified, it’s ready to use! Apply a small amount to your underarms using your fingers or a sponge. Store your homemade deodorant in a cool, dry place. If the weather is warm, you may want to keep it in a cooler place, or even the refrigerator.
Personal care products are easier and quicker to make than you think! If you like baking, you’ll like making them. Plus, you’ll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly what you’re applying to your skin.
