Health Coach Tip – How To Stay Hydrated
As the temperature rises, it becomes increasingly crucial to prioritize hydration! With the arrival of warmer weather, our bodies are more susceptible to dehydration, which can have detrimental effects on our overall health and well-being. Adequate hydration plays a vital role in maintaining optimal bodily functions, regulating body temperature, and supporting vital organ functions. Whether you’re enjoying outdoor activities, spending time under the sun, or simply going about your daily routine, staying hydrated becomes a fundamental necessity to ensure a happy and healthy warm season ahead.
So, how much water should you be drinking each day?
Water intake may vary based on individual factors such as activity level, age, and climate – with those who are more active, those who are in warmer climates and those who are older having higher water requirements. Despite recent research suggesting that it may be excessive, a widely accepted recommendation is to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day, which is equivalent to about 2 liters or half a gallon – we always say 4 big glasses a day!
Here are some simple tips to drink up:
- Drink a big glass of water when you wake up – that’s one out of the way!
- Keep a pitcher of lemon and cucumber water at your work space and commit to finishing it by day’s end.
- Make some herbal tea in the afternoon (it counts towards your water intake).
- Eat lots of vegetables – they add to your water intake and supply you with needed nutrients.
- Use your favorite glass to inspire your desire to drink H2O throughout the day.
- If you empty your glass, be sure to fill it right back up.
Use whatever tricks work for you to get you allotment for the day!
