Health Coach Tip – Prep For A Healthier Halloween

October is the month of candy. Halloween brings endless bowls of M&Ms, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Candy Corn — all filled with sugar, artificial flavors, food dyes, GMO cornstarch, and other scary ingredients! But with a little planning, you can enjoy the season without the sugar crash (or the junk). Here are some fun, healthier alternatives that are just as delicious — and way better for you.
1. Almond Butter Cups
Skip the processed peanut butter cups and make your own Paleo Almond Butter Cups. Use dark, fair-trade chocolate (try one sweetened with stevia or monk fruit), coconut oil, and coconut flour. Add a drizzle of maple syrup for natural sweetness. They’re easy, rich, and satisfy every chocolate craving — without the guilt.
2. DIY Trail Mix
This one’s a classic for a reason. Mix up your own trail mix and portion it into paper snack bags for grab-and-go treats. Combine raw or dry-roasted nuts and seeds, coconut flakes, unsweetened chocolate chips or cacao nibs, and a handful of dried fruit like goji berries or raisins. You’ll have a crunchy, satisfying snack that’s full of nutrients and energy.
3. Scary Halloween Apple Mouths
These spooky little snacks are always a hit with kids (and adults). Slice apples and spread almond butter on each side, then stick in slivered almonds for “teeth.” Brush with a little lemon juice to keep the apples from browning. Cute, healthy, and guaranteed to make everyone smile.
4. Frozen “Boo”-nana Pops
For a chilly twist, try frozen banana ghost pops. Slice bananas in half, insert popsicle sticks, dip in melted white chocolate or Greek yogurt, and use mini dark chocolate chips for eyes. Freeze until firm — fun, spooky, and naturally sweet.
5. Pumpkin Protein Bites
Give your candy stash a protein boost with Pumpkin Spice Energy Balls. Mix together nut butter (we recommend almond), pumpkin purée, oats, protein powder, chia seeds, cinnamon, and a little honey. Roll into bite-sized balls and refrigerate. Perfect for snacking between trick-or-treaters!
Halloween doesn’t have to mean a sugar overload. With these creative swaps, you can celebrate the spooky season with treats that are festive, fun, and nourishing.
