Health Coach Tip – Holiday Eating Guide

It’s December already – can you believe it? It’s a great time to gather with family and friends to celebrate the season (with lots of food and beverage). Here are some simple tips to help you enjoy, without surrendering your health!

1) Prep throughout the day.

Instead of limiting food all day to make room for a big holiday meal and dessert, start your day with a healthy breakfast like a protein shake, followed up with a reasonable lunch of salad with proteins and healthy fats. It’s easier to make healthy decisions when you aren’t hangry.

2) Eat your veggies.

Load 80% of your plate with delicious vegetables – Brussels sprouts, green beans, salads, and root vegetables. Then let the rest be filled with whatever looks tasty to you.

3) Be moderate.

Consume alcohol and sweets in limited amounts. Start with sparkling water and hit the healthy hors d’oeuvres before sampling the cookies and having a cocktail.

4) Indulge a little!

What is your favorite treat? Holiday cookies? Mash potatoes? Mulled wine? Have some and enjoy.

5) Get back on track.

Don’t let the holidays get you off track completely. Enjoy a holiday party, then wake up the next day and get back to your regular routine. An occasional indulgent meal isn’t going to knock you off your healthy path.
