Health Coach Tip - BBQ Survival
We made it, summer is here! And with summer, comes lots of delicious BBQs and social gatherings filled with tempting foods and beverages – some of which are better for you than others. Here are a few tips to help you make the best decisions you can under tempting situations... and when there is something too good to pass up, indulge a little!
Think Paleo
Load your plate up with fresh summer veggies (salad, grilled veggies, guacamole) and quality proteins - chicken, steak, fish. Try to avoid the potato salads, chips, pastas, cookies, and burger buns - then you'll have the perfect Paleo plate.
Mindful Drinking
Seeing friends you haven't seen in over a year can easily lead to a few too many drinks. Be mindful with these tips.
- Eat something before you drink
- Only have one drink per hour
- Hydrate with a water or seltzer in between drinks
- Stick to sugar-free mixers
- Keep it moderate and savor that yummy glass of rose!
Pack Your Tupperware
Everyone wins when you bring a delicious and healthy side dish to the BBQ. Offer in advance, so your host knows what’s coming and head to the farmers market. A dip with crudite (cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, bell peppers, asparagus, green beans, radicchio, purple carrots, snap peas, radishes, fennel, etc.) or a big summer salad is the perfect addition. Then you can pile your plate up with veggies (often missing from the average BBQ!) and the host will be happy to have one less dish to prepare.
