Health Coach Tip - Giving Thanks

What’s the healthiest takeaway from your Thanksgiving meal? It might not be what you think. Enjoy and try to bring a little of this Thanksgiving Day awareness into each and every day.

Mindfulness

The Thanksgiving meal may be the one meal that we pay the most attention to. Many of us make the effort to cook the whole meal from scratch, often in the company of family and good friends. We are reminded of what and who is truly important to us, what we really value in our lives, and take the chance to actually sit down and enjoy a meal made with love and intention.

Community

Slowing down and sharing a meal with family and friends can help give us a sense of community. Often we eat our meals alone, in front of our computer or TV—not even fully aware of the fact that we’re eating.

Gratitude

Many have a tradition of sharing some thoughts about what they are grateful for over the Thanksgiving meal. Hearing others’ thoughts can help remind us of how fortunate we are and how many things we take for granted. It’s also a great opportunity to tell the people we love and appreciate how much they mean to us. Sure – it may sound cheesy, but that’s what Thanksgiving is all about!
