Carbs (aka carbohydrates) are a hot topic in nutrition these days. They are a hot topic in Dr. Lipman’s office too. When we meet with patients, we help them find the best diet for their individual needs, but there is almost always one point in common: eat fewer carbs.
Protein is an essential part of every person’s diet, but you don’t need to be a meat eater to get your daily allotment. If you aren’t a meat eater, you are going to need to be more more mindful about where your protein is coming from each day (and if you are a meat eater, you might want to mix up your protein intake with some of these veggie options!). These days, most people get ample amounts of protein, but if you aren't, skimping on protein is not a good idea.
Sometimes it feels like your cravings are driving your decisions. Clearly you didn’t mean to eat that candy at work, or that whole dessert, or to finish that bag of chips you opened. When your food choices feel out of your control, it’s time to set yourself up for success with these simple tips to curb cravings (aka the cookie monster inside).
Eating an aggressively low fat diet is not the ticket to health we once thought it was. So, if your diet is extra lean, it’s time to give it a re-think and fatten it up! Fat is absolutely essential for every function of the body and brain, so shorting yourself on this delicious stuff may well be doing more harm than good.
