You've probably heard the term "leaky gut" thrown around lately. Although the term has been in the ‘alternative’ fields of medicine for some time now, it’s becoming accepted by more Western doctors. In very simple terms, a leaky gut means that the tight junctions in your gut lining aren't as tight as they used to be, and therefore are letting unusual substances enter your body. This can happen for various reasons including stress, medications, inflammatory foods, chemicals, infections, etc. Left unattended, a leaky gut can lead to more serious issues.
