Health Coach Tip - Working from Home, Stress-Free

Have you been working from home due to the pandemic? Do you feel like you are living at the office? Is there a blur between work life and personal life? It's time to create a routine to deal with the reality of remote working. Where you work and how you start and end your day can make a big difference to how you manage work/life balance. It could be the difference between adding more stress to an already stressful situation or enjoying your new "office."

Create a Workspace

  • You already have a space to work in, but is it a good one? Now that you are (most likely) working from home through the spring, it's be time to re-evaluate. Ideally set up a space that can be dedicated to work. If you don’t have a home office, use a desk or table with a little privacy. If it’s a dining room table or other multi-use space, find a drawer, cupboard, or a dedicated box to keep your work items in and set up and break down at the end of the day. Think about your needs - lighting, comfort, plugs, proper erogonomics - and see what you can upgrade.

Start Your Day

  • Don’t log onto the computer the second you wake up! Take some time to yourself and get through your morning routine. Have coffee, step outside for a walk, read the news - those things you used to do before you showed up at the office. Now sit down and start your day.

End Your Day

  • Make a to-do list for tomorrow - this is a great way to let go for the evening.
  • Shut down your computer and step away! Even if you have more work to do, get into the routine of leaving the "office" around 5 or 6pm to run errands, hit the home gym, or make dinner with your family. This will help to create some boundries and that routine of having a "work day."

Try different approaches until you find a good fit for your space, family, and work.
